Romantic weekend at the Schloss Eberstein

Have you always wanted to feel like a princess / prince and spend the night in a castle? The historic hotel Schloss Eberstein makes your dreams come true. The castle is located on the hill from the town Gernsbach, in the region northern Black Forest and offers you a fantastic view of the Murgtal.

Arrival

We went by car to the Schloss Eberstein and the drive took about 2,5 hours. What I found very pleasant; We were able to travel almost the whole way on the motorway. After the motorway exit Rastatt Nord / Gernsbach, it is only 10 kilometers to the castle and the way was very easy to find. There is plenty of parking space available in front of the castle.

Hotel room

When I entered the hotel room, I felt comfortable from the start. The rooms are very lovingly furnished. You encounter a mixture of historical luxury and modern items. My partner and I spent the night in one of the two suites, which offered a lot of space. The bed was very comfortable, and we slept very well and were able to relax. We could also make ourselves very comfortable in the living area. But what I liked the most was the bathroom. I loved the free-standing bathtub and the washbasin. A hotel room just the way I like it. And insider tip for all women – the room even had a walk-in closet!

The castle

The history of the castle goes back a long way. In the 18th century the castle was no longer inhabited, but in the beginning of the 19th century the Princely House of Baden took an interest in the castle and so it became a representative residential.

In 2000, the Cologne entrepreneur Gerd Overlack bought the castle, the hotel and the two restaurant are run by the family Werner.

My partner and I had a great tour of the castle with the director Marc Walter. He told us interesting facts and showed us areas of the castle that you can’t explore on your own.

Winter magic on the castle courtyard

From the end of November until to the end of January there is the Winter magic (Winterzauber) in the castle courtyard. The whole courtyard is decorated for Christmas and there are great things to discover.

There are sales stall with drinks and foot, but also with various gift articles. Of course, I couldn’t resist and had a tasty Crêpe. What should not be missing at this time of the year, is a delicious, mulled wine – and the hotel has a good wine.

The children’s bakery is also totally enchanting. The children can bake in the castle while their parents look around the marked outside. A brilliant idea.

Schloss-Schänke and Werners Restaurant

As mentioned before, there are two restaurants belong to the castle. I love the Schloss-Schänke. From the first moment I was in the room with the historic walls and the great decoration, I knew it would suit me. There was a unique atmosphere in this restaurant. The restaurant serve regional kitchen and it was very good. In summer you can seat outside and have a great look over the whole area and in winter, you can enjoy this pretty room, which one I love so much.

The other restaurant, Werners Restaurant, is run by Bernd Werner. The restaurant has been awarded one star in the Guide Michelin since 2006. I would have loved to try the light gourmet cuisine myself, but unfortunately there was not enough time. I will definitely try the restaurant on my next visit and I will let you know about my experience.

Wedding and other celebrations

I was not very surprised that many weddings take place at Schloss Eberstein. I can absolutely understand why – I would also want to get married there. Mr. Walter showed us the different wedding locations during the tour and each room was more beautiful than the other. The hotel also offers a lot of space for guests. Furthermore, the castle also has a catering service, which makes it even better. So, if you’re not married yet, here’s my insider tip. But beware, they are very well booked. The castle has already received enquiries for 2024.

Activities

If you don’t want to spend your time just only in the hotel, there are of course activities outside the hotel. I highly recommend visiting the town of Gernsbach. The town has a great old town with beautiful and lovely houses. Let yourself be enchanted and stroll through the alleys.

For those who like it a bit sportier, there are great hiking trails or cycling paths. The hotel has listed some possible examples of their website. Why don’t you have a look for yourself?

Currency and means of payment

In Gernsbach you pay in Euro (EUR). In the hotel you can pay with credit cards. For the winter magic on the castle courtyard you will need cash.

Language

In Germany the people speak German.
