Winterwonderland Tannheimer Tal

Published on 13 March 2022 at 17:43

We spend our winter holidays in the village of Nesselwängle, which is in the Tannheimer Valley. This valley belongs to Tyrol but is only a stone’s throw away from Germany. Great mountains, beautiful landscapes, and delicious food – all in one place.

Our accommodation

We have rented a beautiful chalet in Nesselwängle. The provider is Chalet Grand Flüh and they have three different chalets. The feel-good chalet, which is the largest and we also rented. The cuddly chalet, which is the middle one. There is also a tiny chalet for those who don't need so much space. I would rent our feel-good chalet again. It is the most beautiful chalet we have ever rented - and we have already rented several chalets in different countries. The whole interior was lovely, and we felt very comfortable from the first moment.

The chalet offers a spacious living and dining area. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need. The windows are very large so that you can also enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the Alps. The bedrooms all have their own bathrooms. The free-standing bathtub was super cool too. The chalet has its own spa area. A sauna, a separate shower, as well as floating loungers in the relaxation room - all available. What I liked the best was of course the outdoor whirlpool.

Highline179

The chalet was a great starting point for many activities. I would now like to introduce a few of them.

Only flying is more beautiful, say the operators of Highline 179, the longest Tibet-style pedestrian suspension bridge. Those who cross the structure south of Reutte enjoy a sensational view.

When we arrived at the car park and I saw the bridge from below, my legs started to shake a bit. The bridge can be reached in two different ways. There is a forest path that climbs from the valley to the bridge. Good shoes would be useful for the way up. For those who want to take it a little easier, there is a train. However, you need a ticket for this. Since I recently broke my foot, we chose the comfortable option. When we reached the top, it was pure adrenaline. The first step might be a bit difficult, but after that you just enjoy the beautiful view.

Weissenbach am Lech

Honestly, I don’t think I have ever seen such a beautiful river before. This is the Lech, photographed at Weissenbach am Lech, Tyrol. The river is 256 km long, it rises in Voralberg and flows through Tyrol and Southern Bavaria.

The water is incredibly clear, very clean and had a beautiful blue / green colour. If it hadn’t been around zero degrees outside, I would have been the first to jump in. this place had something magical. Just for a little moment the world stopped turning and I felt peace.

Horse drawn carriage rides

Since I was not too good on foot this holiday, we decided to take a carriage ride. We decided to go with the horse drawn carriage company Kleiner. The people were very nice, and I had the impression that they take very good care of the horses. The ride was very pleasant, and the journey was very nice.

Restaurant

What absolutely must be mentioned the Austrian food. We love Austrian cuisine and especially Kaiserschmarrn. Of course, I ate one – ok maybe not just one.

Sometimes we cooked ourselves and sometimes we went out to eat in restaurants. One super restaurant was the experience restaurant Via Mala in Grän, just 5 minutes with the car from the Chalet. Original Tyrolean inn with regional products of the highest quality and top cuisine! An idyllic village of pleasure with a thundering waterfall, a mountain storm, mill wheels and a romantic atmosphere. I ate de tasty Via Mala Pfannderl with Spätzle and of course, I ordered Kaiserschmarrn for dessert.

We also had a good meal in the Dorfstube in Tannheim. I ordered once again Spätzle. After the Kaiserschmarrn, my 2nd favourite. In my opinion, it should have had a bit more cheese and less onions on it - but it was good and the Dorfstube was cozy.
