Québec - a touch of France

Off we go to the home of French culture in Canada. The magnificent city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The big city is considered the oldest and most beautiful city in Canada. Most of the buildings in the old town date from the 17th century and show clear stylistic elements of French architecture.

Old Town

The main attraction of Quebec City is the idyllic old town, framed by the city walls, with its winding streets and small shady squares. You'll see the centuries-old history of French-Canadian settlement around every corner. Just let yourself drift through the alleys of Petit Champlain and enjoy the special flair of the city.

Terrasse Dufferin

The Terrasse Dufferin is the wide promenade at the foot of the Chateau Frontenac. More than 200 years old, the terrace of wooden benches connects the upper town with the historic battlefields on the edge of the old town, where the English and French fought bitterly for supremacy in the New World. Several old cannons from this period still line the promenade. From up here, you have a breathtaking view over the lower town and the majestic Saint Lawrence River, which flows below the city.

Château Frontenac

The imposing castle, which can be seen from far away, is enthroned on a hill above the old town and is the landmark of Quebec City. But it's not really a castle, it's a 5-star hotel. Therefore, if you ever want to spend the night in a castle - this is the opportunity.

Restaurant

So - I've heard that you should eat Poutine at least once in Canada. Poutine is a popular fast food speciality and a national dish of Canada. It is recommended to eat it in Quebec, as it was invented there. Poutine consists of French fries, cheese and gravy. I have to admit, when I read that, I thought to myself, no, that can't be good.

We ate at Restaurant Maison Livernois and it was very tasty. You really have to try it! But don't forget, the fries are eaten with a fork, not with your fingers.
