Language

The official languages are Finnish and Swedish, Swedish mainly in the south. Saami, the language of the Lapps, is also spoken in Finland.

English is widely spoken, especially in the big cities.

Currency and means of payment

In Finland you pay in Euro (EUR). You can pay everywhere with credit cards. It is accepted as a means of payment in all shops, Restaurant or Hotels.

Tip

In most cases, the tip is already included in the service. Tipping is therefore not necessary. If the food and service were good, you can round up the amount.

Transport and infrastructure

The road network is well developed. In the countryside, there is a risk of serious accidents with wild animals. Do not underestimate the long distances. In winter, be aware of snowstorms and freezing rain and check the weather forecast before making long trips.

Risk due to nature

Especially in the north of the country, the extreme weather conditions in winter require good preparation and equipment for outdoor activities.

Opening hours

On weekdays, sales outlets may be open from 07:00 am to 21:00 pm, on Saturdays between 07:00 am. and 18:00 pm. and on Sundays between 12:00 pm. and 18:00 pm. There is an obligation to close on public holidays. However, opening hours can depending on whether you are in a city or in a rural area.
