Weekend trip to South Tyrol

Published on 9 August 2021 at 18:39

South Tyrol is the most northern province of Italy and since the extended autonomy came into force, South Tyrol has enjoyed comprehensive self-government rights and is accordingly referred as an "autonomous province". It was the first time for me in South Tyrol and certainly not for the last time.

Montiggler Lakes

The two Montiggler Lakes are located near Eppan. The Great Montiggler Lake is approx. 700m long. Its width varies between 200 and 300m. There is also a separate pool, the "Lido Montiggl", with the longest water slide in South Tyrol. On the large sunbathing lawn, at the pool bar or in the restaurant, you can let your soul dangle and simply enjoy your holiday. Not far from the large lake is the small Montiggler Lake, just as idyllic in the middle of the forest and he is about 300 m long. Both lakes are popular excursion destinations from spring to late autumn. There is a large car park where you can park your car. We were lucky to be able to walk directly to the lakes, as our hotel was right next door.

Both lakes are beautiful and very natural. There is a great walking path around both lakes, which is also suitable for beginners. The hike may take about an hour, not much longer. You will see places where people jump into the lake and swim. There are also suitable entry points for children. We also saw many people on their bikes. So you see, these areas offer many activities.

Bolzano / Bozen

Today Bolzano is the city in South Tyrol where the Italian and German cultures mix the most. This creates a fascinating and extraordinary cultural mix that is reflected in the language of the people, in traffic signs, gastronomy and, of course, in the historical and artistic sights of the city. The historic centre of Bolzano is a work of art made up of narrow streets and historic buildings, where tradition and modernity combine in an interesting way. The old town has many small alleys and large squares with shops and restaurants.

You hear the German language everywhere but when you try to find something to eat it is immediately clear that you are in Italy. Everywhere you have delicious pasta and pizza and of course just as a pizza should be. Wafer-thin base, delicious tomato sauce with fresh mozzarella, not overbaked! I love this pizza.

Hotel

You are looking for rest, great food, and warm-hearted people, the Gartenhotel Moser will be the perfect place for you. The hotel offers spacious rooms, a beautiful garden with nice pool areas, awesome spa and wellness offers and a myriad of leisure activities. Various sports program, hiking, swimming with the Alpakas or just wine tasting – there’s something for everyone.

I am a big fan of natural swimming pools, so I was very happy when I saw that the hotel has a natural swimming pond.  The main difference to classic swimming pool is that the water is treated without any chemical’s additives. The Hotel created a naturally designed water landscape, which is totally loving and very calming.
