Engadin - a valley to fall in love with

Engadin is a paradise for sports enthusiasts and adventurers, a place of inspiration and tranquility, a valley with real nature and full of cultural treasures. Switzerland’s largest winter sports region enchants as a landscape and as a myth, because it combines harmonious nature, tradition, and lifestyle.

Our accommodation

We rented the beautiful flat Abitaziun Tass in Silvaplana. It is very modern, in alpine chic style. The special wooden furnishings and the unusual wooden floor give the flat an individual flair. In the living room there is a dining table and a cozy sofa corner with fireplace. The children's bedroom is equipped with 2 bunk beds. Opposite is one of the bathrooms with shower and WC. Next to the children's bedroom is the master bedroom, which has a double bed, wardrobe, and flat screen TV. The second bathroom next to the bedroom has a shower with integrated steam sauna and WC.

The apartment building is located at the end of Silvaplana in the direction of the Julier Pass. The flat has a garage parking space, a bicycle and ski room with its own centrally heated ski locker, as well a washing machine room. Shopping facilities and public transport connections are in the immediate vicinity. Cross-country skiing trails and hiking paths are only a few minutes' walk away.

In our opinion, the house had only one drawback. While we were there, there was a building site and so we sometimes had quite some noise in the flat early in the morning. That was a pity.

Silvaplana

Silvaplana is considered the lively, young "trend spot" in the Engadin. Surrounded by a dreamlike nature and nestled in the vast lake landscape. It lies at 1815 m above sea level, at the foot of the Julier Pass. The three districts of Silvaplana, Surlej and Champfèr are surrounded by striking mountains. It is also known as the gateway to the Engadin and is flanked by a picturesque chain of impressive three-thousand-meter peaks, above all the local mountain Corvatsch.

St. Moritz

Glamour, lifestyle, sport and nature merge into an exclusive cocktail.  The shopping mile is unbelievable. Whether Armani, Gucci or Zegna, the selection of renowned boutiques is huge. You need to have the big wallet with you, personally I prefer a little more down-to-earth.

Morteratsch - Bernina Express

The Bernina Express from Chur to Valposchiavo is one of the most spectacular Alpine crossings. The panoramic tours through the UNESCO World Heritage are a great pleasure. The railway line blends harmoniously into the mountain world of Bernina. Thanks to modern panoramic trolleys you can enjoy unlimited views of the untouched Alpine panorama.

Restaurant

When we were in the Engadin, there was a lockdown in Switzerland due to Covid-19. All restaurants were closed. That’s why we rented a flat and cooked ourselves. Nevertheless, we had ordered twice at a delivery service.

My favourite meal in the Engadin is Capuns. Capuns is the name of a traditional dish from the canton of Graubünden. They say there are as many recipes for Capuns in Graubünden as there are grandmothers. The reason for disagreement is often the meat. I really like the Capuns with Salsiz and Bündnerfleisch. Try it, it’s very tasty!

The other dish you should try is Pizzoccheri. This is a type of pasta made from buckwheat and wheat flour. Pizzoccheri are typically served with savoy cabbage, potatoes, and cheese.
