In the heart of Switzerland lies the village of Engelberg. For many Swiss, Engelberg is a popular destination in winter as well as in summer because of its central location. A beautiful village, surrounded by nature, which offers great attractions and fantastic mountain experiences.
The village
The village is relatively small and manageable. There are many restaurants and hotels, 2-3 bars and some shops. I liked the village center, everything there is so typically Swiss. Beautiful buildings and Swiss flags hanging proudly everywhere. If you are looking for a place where there is always something going on in the summer, you are certainly in the wrong place. It was very quiet and at 10 o'clock in the evening there were hardly any people on the street. I didn’t mind, as I often look for peace and quiet. Engelberg is above all a very famous ski resort, so I’m sure it’s busier in winter.
Trübsee
Do you love nature and the mountains? Then is the Lake Trübsee a place for you. You can easily walk from the village centre to the Titlis cable cars. The gondola takes you up to the Trübsee in 9 minutes. Lake Trübsee is about 1800 metres above sea level. From the top you have a great view of the imposing rock faces, beautiful alpine pastures with cows and of course the Trübsee itself. There is a beautiful walkway around the lake. When we were there, the weather was a bit cloudy. This gave the surroundings a somewhat mystical atmosphere.
Hotel & Restaurant
We spent our weekend at Hotel H+ Hotel & Spa, which is in the center of the village. It was perfect for a weekend. Our view from the balcony was magnificent. The rooms are nicely furnished, and the bathroom was also very spacious. The breakfast buffet had tasty delicacies, fresh fruits, and many bread variations. This is a good way to start the day.
The restaurant Urchig is Rustic and cozy and have an open fireplace. They serve traditional Swiss dishes. My recommendation: Ghackets und Hörnli. This is one of my favourite meals in Switzerland. It’s pasta with minced meat.
If you like Indian food, I recommend visiting the Spice Bazaar restaurant. The restaurant belongs to the Hotel Central but you can eat there as a visitor. The food is lovingly prepared and very tasty. Myself I don't like to eat too spicy, but that wasn't a problem. You can also order the Indian specialties not spicy.
