Language

The official language is Norwegian, but almost everyone also speaks English.

Currency and means of payment

In Norway you pay in Norwegian Krone (NOK). Payment by credit card is preferred.

Tip

You can tip, but it is not a must.

Transport and infrastructure

The road network is well developed. A charge is levied for the use of many roads, which can vary depending on the environmental friendliness of the vehicles. There is a risk of serious accidents involving wild animals in the countryside.

Risk due to nature

Extreme weather conditions in winter require good preparation and equipment for outdoor activities. It is advisable to be accompanied by a local guide. There is an acute risk of avalanches in winter.

Heavy rainfall can cause flooding, landslides, and infrastructure damage. Travelling may also be temporarily affected. Follow the recommendations and warnings of the local authorities and population.

Medical care

The European Health Insurance Card must be presented for medical treatment. However, the card is not valid on Svalbard (Spitsbergen).
